Options for Storing Contact Lenses

Posted on 01 October 2013

When it comes to storing and taking care of your contact lenses, ensuring that they are in a sterile, safe, and clean environment is one of the most beneficial and helpful things that you can do for them. It is also one of the most important things that you can do for your own overall health when it comes to managing your vision and eye care needs.

In fact, there are really only one or two options to store your contact lenses that are recommended, healthy and effective. While many people may choose different brands or products specifically, it's important to follow the guidelines below to store your contact lenses in such a way that will most greatly improve you and your body, vision, and eye health over time.

Daily lenses are another story

For people who use the ever-popular daily lenses, well, no storage necessary! These lenses are thrown out at the end of each and every day and replaced.

Therefore you won't need any sort of case to store these lenses or do anything else. Instead, simply open a new pair the next day and wear them for that day.

Weekly and monthly lenses must be cared for carefully

With weekly and monthly lenses, there are a few important things that you must do to ensure that you get the most out of your lens wearing experience, while still improving your overall health and greatly improving your experience with the lenses. That means several things:

  • Rinse your case with a disinfectant solution and air dry face down to prevent debris from accumulating
  • Replace your contact lens case every 3-6 months, depending on what your eye doctor says and on how well you can keep your cleaning schedule
  • Never use a cracked or damaged lens case for any reason
  • For those who travel often, make sure to pack an extra lens case in the event that the one you have gets lost, stolen, or damaged

Contact lenses are incredibly sensitive to storage issues and as such, it is critical that you work to ensure that you get the most out of your lenses when it comes to caring for them and putting them in the right case.

While it may seem like hard work to care for your lenses in this manner, understand all the benefits as you work to ensure that your eyes will forever be safe and healthy thanks to your lens care and cleaning regimen.

Your eyes will surely thank you when it comes down to it and you will be able to wear contacts for years to come with your healthy cleaning regimen and your sterile, safe contacts that mould easily to your eye and work perfectly within your specific requirements and field of vision.
